European GP

Well Ferari's Felipe Massa won another GP on Sunday and would now be leading the driver's championship handily had his engine not exploded on him when he had just a few laps remaining of the Hungarian GP.

Oddly enough, the British TV commentators weren't too interested in that side of things. They were more interested in the fact that as Massa left the pits, he came dangerously close to having an accident with another driver, Sebastian Vettel, who was going past.

The commentators made it quite clear that they thought it was deserving of an immediate penalty - and made the insinuation that the race stewards were biased/wrong/corrupt for not punishing him but instead deciding to investigate the incident after the race.
"I don't know what they need to look at," they said indignatly. "pretty clear-cut to me," one of them said. They seemed to think that a drive-through penalty would have been mostr fair - gleefully hoping that this happened and so handing Hamilton the victory that he didn't ever deserve. "Rules are rules," they said.

And this is the problem with British commentators you see. When there is a half-decent British driver in the championship, the world, they believe, is always biased against them. Luckily there haven't been any really good British drivers for a long, long time. Even Damon Hill was only there because of the superoirity of his car - although hasn't that always been the way with F1?

Annoyingly, now that Lewis Hamilton is around they're back to their biased commentating ways, perhaps forgetting that earlier in the season it was Lewis Hamilton who rode into the back of a Ferari in the pitlane - something he himself only received a 10-place grid penalty for at the next race. A friend of mine sent me a text asking "Was it just me or did Lewis seem to swerve at the Ferari when given the choice of two cars to crash into?" I gave Hamilton the benefit and apparently, so did the FIA. The commentators have obviously forgotten this.

Lewis - took title rival out of race - 10 place grid penalty.
Nobody's fault but his own.
Massa - didn't take anyone out - yet according to Brundle and sidekick,
should have been penalised more?

Pathetic. It seems it really is time that the ITV crowd realised that there are 19 other drivers on the grid and not just Hamilton. Then hopefully we can enjoy races where we don't continually have to put up with them mentioning his name even when he's way off the pace in fourth!
